Proper Network Analysis and Testing is a critical component to ensuring a successful IP Migration for your organization.
AGT recognizes that many organizations have already made steps towards migrating their video conferencing to IP. Most of our customers have realized the benefits from moving videoconferencing systems from ISDN to IP as the advantages of IP are widely known and accepted within the industry. The challenge faced by many organizations is “how do they move successfully to IP” and once they have moved to IP “how can they maintain high quality video over IP”.
AGT delivers our IP Video Testing and Analysis Services to address these issues.
IP Video Migration Testing and Analysis
In this pre-deployment service, AGT performs an IP Video Readiness assessment and provides recommendations to the customer for network changes and upgrades. The primary goal of this analysis is to ensure that the network is properly configured and equipped to support high quality IP Video prior to a migration.

IP Video Troubleshooting
In this post-deployment service, AGT performs troubleshooting and analysis in order to identify the cause and make recommendations for the correction of IP Video quality issues. The primary goal of this analysis is to correct video quality issues that have been discovered after migration.
IP Video Lifecycle Services
Our lifecycle services are intended to maintain the health and integrity of the network after migration. Lifecycle services include; certification of new sites, troubleshooting quality issues, periodic network validation, and monitoring/enforcement of SLA’s.
Testing and Analysis
AGT’s IP Video testing and analysis services employ several distinct and unique methods that leverage both our expertise and innovative technologies. AGT combines our knowledge of videoconferencing and networking, with FATHOM, our IP Video network testing tool to perform the services.
Expertise
A combined expertise in videoconferencing and networking is essential to properly testing and analyzing video networks due to the complexity of integration between video devices and network devices.
Our certifications and expertise include:
- Polycom Certified Service Partner (CSP)
- Certified Video Engineer (CVE)
- Most major Endpoint/MCU/Gateway/Gatekeeper Solutions
- CCIE
- CCNP
- CCNA
Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Endpoints, MCU’s, Gatekeepers, and Gateways have to be harmonized for successful operation.
Testing
Our philosophy for testing and validation is to actively inject actual H.323 traffic on the network prior to an IP deployment. It’s imperative that the network has a real bandwidth load (128K, 256K, 384K, etc) using H.xxx and G.xxx video protocols to determine the effect of video. Our testing measures jitter, latency, packet loss, and round trip delay of H.323 traffic directly to endpoints and MCU’s. We don’t stop at the edge devices.
About FATHOM
The FATHOM™ Commander is the most technically advanced assessment and monitoring tool for IP video networks and IP endpoints. It measures H.323 audio and video traffic on individual networks to proactively prevent potential problems. FATHOM was recently awarded the Communications Solutions Magazine Solution of the Year for excellence in technological advancement and application refinements.
Utilize FATHOM™ to:
- Pre-Engineer a Network
With real-time testing of H.323 audio and video, FATHOM provides objective data on the condition of current IP networks prior to adding audio and video to the network. It makes flawless convergence possible.
- Troubleshoot Current Networks
For converged networks experiencing poor quality today, FATHOM identifies the exact problem(s) and provides fault-isolation functionality. It takes the guess work out of the equation.
- Monitor to Prevent Potential Problems
By systematically monitoring network QoS and endpoint status under actual conditions, FATHOM assists in the prevention of end user problems as network usage patterns evolve. FATHOM provides a higher level of performance and helps develop the connectivity reliability that end users expect.
Key Features
- Supports audio and video codecs
- Sets test traffic priority (IP TOS DiffServ)
- Analyzes gatekeeper performance
- Selects test call bit rates
- Supports testing and monitoring across firewalls
- Presents real-time view of video endpoint status
Operation and Testing
Providing further detail on its actual operation, FATHOM™ creates test video calls between pairs of FATHOM™ appliances or from a FATHOM appliance directly to an H.323 Endpoint. During each test call, the FATHOM™ COMMANDER collect statistics on the packet loss, end-to-end network delay and jitter along the path of the call. Multiple calls are placed between different combinations of endpoints and at various times of the day, to create a clear picture of the manner in which the network operates under actual H.323 loading conditions. The evaluation of actual conditions is a key advantage of FATHOM™. In addition, parameters, such as the video bandwidth and IP TOS flags, may be set at will for each test call.
