The California Video-Over-IP
Project will be Managed by Applied Global Technologies
Rockledge, FL August 7, 2003 - Applied Global Technologies,
a worldwide outsourcer of reliable and worry-free video communication
services, announces it has signed a contract with the
California State University to provide the infrastructure
hardware and professional services for their CALVIP project.
CALVIP is a statewide initiative to provide the video conferencing
infrastructure for all levels of education in California.
AGT will implement a comprehensive turn-key solution for the
CALVIP infrastructure. This infrastructure consists
of three locations (northern, central and southern) that will
include Polycom MGC 100, Polycom Conference Suite, and Radvision
Gatekeepers. AGT will also provide QoS and Security
technologies.
"This project is exciting because it opens up a tremendous
number of opportunities for distance education and collaboration
in California and with other educational institutions that
are using compatible technology," said Susan Bowers,
assistant director, Video Services and Support, 4CNet Network
Services. "We are pleased to be working with
AGT to make this project happen."
This five-year contract with the California State University
System on behalf of the CALVIP constituencies will provide
hardware, ongoing maintenance and professional services required
to implement the statewide infrastructure. It will support
Video over IP to all University of California, California
State University, Community College and K12 locations participating
in the CALVIP program.
This new H.323 infrastructure is designed to replace the 4CNet
video infrastructure over ATM and the University of California's
video over a separate ATM infrastructure while combining all
education in California on a single video infrastructure.
4CNet currently runs the video network for 30 California State
University sites and 111 Community College sites. The
University of California Office of the President maintains
video for the 12 UC sites.
Initially, AGT will support approximately 250 IP-enabled
endpoints, including Tandberg
and Polycom/PictureTel systems. As a result of the open
architecture, it is anticipated that the number of endpoints
will increase rapidly within the first two years.
The focus of this network is to provide classroom instruction
(distance learning). Its secondary application will
involve administrative meetings throughout the state.
"This Master Enabling Agreement is a major opportunity
for AGT to demonstrate its expertise in implementing IP convergence
technology for the state of California," said Linda Bickelman,
Western Region VP, Applied Global Technologies. "The
CAL VIP project is an innovative, cooperative and cost effective
solution for Distance Learning that can be replicated with
other state education networks."
